Project Intern

We hire Project Interns as our project workload allows. You will have an opportunity to learn about the career path of a Superintendent and a Project Manager while gaining critical hands-on experience on a commercial construction project site. The intern will provide support to one or more Project Teams in areas of gathering and/or processing RFI’s, submittals, and close-outs while assisting in overall documentation control. In addition to shadowing our team leaders in the field, you will also gain insight from team members in the designated regional office.

North Texas Area

Position Summary:

We are seeking an Assistant Superintendent to join our team. You will assist the Project Superintendent in managing the day-to-day operation of all field activities and will be responsible for the safety, quality, and on-time completion of the project. The Assistant Superintendent reports directly to the Project Superintendent.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Scheduling – Assist the Superintendent with mobilizing and coordinating Subcontractors to effectively use the Critical Path Method sequencing of the schedule.
  • Manage Construction in accordance with documents – Assist the Superintendent with Quality Control measures, ensuring work meets or exceeds the drawings and specifications. Assist with project documentation such as Daily Reports, photos, etc. in Procore. Assist with the execution and completion of project punch lists and closeout documents.
  • Safety – Attend and assist with the weekly Subcontractor coordination meetings and Safety meetings and document minutes in Procore.
  • Manage Construction Site – Assist in maintaining a clean job site and managing hourly employees, including time sheets for hourly employees and temporary laborers. Coordinates work between trades.

Qualifications:

  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Understanding of all trades of construction.
  • Proficiency in Procore, Microsoft Office, Bluebeam and other software necessary to perform the job.
  • Highly motivated individual with an emphasis on attention to detail.

  • Scheduling – Maintain the progress of the work in accordance with the construction schedule. Mobilize and coordinate subcontractors to effectively use the Critical Path Method (CPM) sequencing of the schedule. Schedule and monitor material procurement with the PM/APM.
  • Safety – Implement, manage, and enforce The Jackson Construction Safety First Plan under the umbrella of the company policy. Evaluate and schedule through the company’s Safety Director required training for JC employees and subcontractors.
  • Quality Control – Enforce project quality standards and provide written documentation to Director of Operations. Conduct weekly subcontractor coordination meetings, verify correct material installation and workmanship, and document in Procore.
  • Manage Construction Site – Maintain clean, safe, and accessible workplaces. Responsible for procurement of materials, construction equipment and certain permanent equipment and delivery of same at specified times to conform to work schedules. Coordinates work between trades. Coordinate with local building officials on required inspections to secure a certificate of occupancy.

You will ideally have previous experience as the lead superintendent on ground-up and renovations of K-12 / Higher Education projects during all phases of construction, from dirt work to punch-out.

Qualifications:

  • At least 5 years’ experience as a project superintendent with a general contractor.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Understanding of all trades of construction.

East Texas Area

Position Summary:

We are seeking a Project Manager to join in our team. The PM will be responsible for the total oversite of the project form pre-construction, construction, closeout, and warranty. The PM shall manage the financials, construction progress, administrative items, subcontractors, and documentation control, while fostering relationships with the Owner and Design Partners.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Communication – Establish, manage and nurture relationships with Owner, Architect and Subcontractors. Regularly update Owner and Design Team on progress and status of the work.
  • Teamwork – Coordinate with Project Superintendent the mobilization and demobilization of the project. You will initiate and oversee the Project Start Up procedure and schedule the Preconstruction Meeting with the Owner, Architect, and major trades prior to the start of the project.
  • Budget Control – Management of the Financials, Construction Progress, Administrative items, Subcontractors, and Documentation Control. Prepare, submit and track monthly owner billings.
  • Project Planning and Management – Maintain the progress of the work in accordance with the construction schedule. Ensure compliance with contract documents, oversee documentation control on Procore and utilize Procore as the primary Project Management tool. Issue instructions on procedures for all RFI’s, Submittals, and Payments to all subcontractors and vendors.
  • Quality Control – Regularly review in place construction for compliance with the plans, specs, & level of quality expected. Manage the RFI process to support the project schedule. Ensure that the work is being built to the most up to date drawings, specs., addendum, standards, etc. Ensure timely distribution of revisions to the construction documents to subcontractors & suppliers.

You will ideally have previous experience as a Project Manager on ground-up and renovations of K-12 / Higher Education projects during all phases of construction from dirt work to punch-out.

Qualifications:

  • At least 5 years’ experience as a project manager with a general contractor.
  • Preferred Bachelor’s degree in construction management or relevant field.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of construction, engineering, and architecture principles.

South Texas Area

Position Summary:

We are seeking an Assistant Project Manager to join our team. The Assistant Project Manager shall assist the Project Manager and Superintendent in areas of Submittals, Project Schedule and Construction Progress, Documentation Control, Financials, and Subcontractor Management. The APM will mostly office on the project site(s) and will report to the PM and Project Superintendent.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Project Startup and Closeout – Coordinate with Project Superintendent the mobilization and demobilization of the project. Attend the Project Handoff Meeting with the Pre-Construction Department and assist the team in ensuring that subcontractor documents are in place prior to the start of the project. Responsible for the entire project closeout.
  • Budget Control – Assist the PM and Superintendent in verifying the accuracy of Subcontractor billings on Pay Applications.
  • Project Planning and Management – Maintain the progress of the work in accordance with the construction schedule. Record and distribute Architect instructions, i.e., ASI’s, addenda, RFI’s. Issue general correspondence to Subs and Vendors, review with the PM as needed.
  • Quality Control – Regularly review in place construction for compliance with the plans, specs, & level of quality expected. Schedule onsite and offsite subcontractor inventory and manufacturing progress verification visits with PM as needed.

You will ideally have previous experience as an Assistant Project Manager on ground-up and renovations of K-12 or Higher Education projects during all phases of construction from dirt work to punch-out.

Qualifications:

  • At least 2 years’ experience as an Assistant Project Manager or Project Engineer with a general contractor.
  • Preferred Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management or relevant field.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
